Disrepair

Buildings come in all shapes and sizes, in good condition and in various states of disrepair. Disrepair often gives the buildings a character that make for visual interest and good photographs even if you wouldn’t want to have to use them.

Here are a few that could be in better condition –

If you’re so inclined, think of
whether it would be safe to enter the building, or use it for which it was intended, or what it might take to repair these interesting structures.

February

There's a special day for every day of the month of February, some are more special than others –

2/2 – Groundhog Day is almost a holiday in parts of Pennsylvania as a poor groundhog is roused from its winter sleep to, supposedly, forecast the end of winter.

2/3 – Carrot Cake Day

2/5 – Ice Cream for Breakfast Day – yum, yum.

2/14 – Valentine’s Day

2/17 – Random Acts of Kindness Day.

2/25 – National Clam Chowder Day.

Pick your favorite day of the month.

Blues

There are lots of blues: The Blues (as in a form of music), once in a blue moon, the blues (as in sadness), The Blue Man Group, a blue jacket (a term for a sailor) and of course the color blue of which there are a plethora.

Here we’ll just take a look at a few blues I’ve found in my travels –

Did you notice the subtle details that make many of these more interesting than just a photo of something blue?

Hopefully 2025 won’t be too blue for you, in spite of the worsening climate crisis, the fractured politics in the U. S. and the conflicts throughout the world (many, if not most, of which are a result of religious differences).

Turkey Day

Turkey Day is another name for Thanksgiving Day in the U. S. Here are a few turkeys to be seen in town:

If eating turkey is part of your family tradition, enjoy the day (and your meal).

Pumpkins

It’s that time of year again, late-October, when pumpkins seem to be everywhere – in fields and roadside stands, garden centers and grocery stores. Pumpkins are squash by another name with, usually, a color that make them outstandingly photogenic. Of course, some are not orange and some aren’t the usual plump round shape. Pumpkins are one of my favorite photographic subjects – here are a few of the photographs I’ve taken of them –

When fall is over and all the jack-o-lanterns have been carved many of those fields will still have pumpkins remaining, the rejects that will feed the deer and insects and bacteria and fungi. Until next year, good-bye pumpkins.
